Memories that last

Tuesday 22 July, 2014

It’s highly likely your wedding will be one of THE most joyful and momentous days in your life.  So one, five, ten, twenty, fifty years on, what memories will be evoked when you recall your marriage or commitment ceremony?

I can guarantee that your memories will be based on the feelings you experience on the day.

To ensure your ceremony promotes joyful feelings, it is wise to give considerable attention to those elements of a ceremony that create mood; the music, the setting, the lighting, the style, the outfits, the words, the sounds, the participants, and so on.

What mood do you wish to evoke? How do you want to feel? How do you want your guests to feel?

Once decided, the next step is to devise a plan to engage the five senses (sight, smell, sense, taste and sound) so as to arouse the desired mood and feeling.

On the weekend I attended the Australian Marriage Association Celebrants Conference in Tweed Heads. One of the presenters, award winning speaker Amanda Gore, gave a riotous presentation on creating joy. An insightful comment she made was about the health benefits of recalling lots of wonderful experiences;they help to release the body’s natural feel-good chemicals – endorphins.

I came out of the presentation reflecting on the incredible significance and health benefits of a joyful, wonderful marriage or commitment ceremony. I trust all my couples will look back on their ceremony in years to come with fond memories, and enjoy the high from their endorphins!
